In the journey of parenthood, the learning curve is both profound and perpetual. Over the past nine years with my elder one and the more recent 20 months with my younger bundle of joy, I've found myself marveling at the remarkable insights children offer into the intricacies of life. In this blog post, I'll share five broad categories of lessons I've learned from observing my kids – lessons that transcend conventional thinking and provide a fresh perspective on the world.

Here are 5 things I broadly categorized that I learned from my kids:-

    1. Unfiltered Creativity: One of the most fascinating aspects of observing my children has been witnessing their boundless creativity. Their minds are not yet confined by societal norms or limitations, allowing them to explore uncharted territories of imagination. My elder one pretends to play like his favorite characters from Marvel or Ben 10, additionally, he is creative with his legos, he will first make the defined Lego design and further break it down to make his version, which I must admire is very remarkable. The younger one on the other hand explores every day in different arenas, sometimes drawing on the surface with water, cleaning after spilling something, and then playing with things and objects available in and around her environment. From fantastical tale narration during playtime to the unbridled joy in coloring outside the lines, my kids have taught me the beauty of embracing creativity without the constraints of adulthood.

    2. Resilience and Bouncing Back from Setbacks: Children possess an innate resilience that often leaves us adults in awe. Whether it's the first stumble while learning to walk or the countless failed attempts at mastering a new skill, my younger one has shown me the power of perseverance, when she is attempting something new, like last week she learned to climb the bed on her own. Before she could accomplish this, she tried and tried every day, not getting disappointed in the process, asking for help when needed, pushed herself without recognizing the several attempts. Their ability to bounce back from setbacks with renewed determination serves as a poignant reminder that setbacks are not roadblocks but stepping stones toward growth.

    3. Curiosity: The Never-Ending Quest for Knowledge The insatiable curiosity of children is a force to be reckoned with. From the endless "whys" to their fascination with the simplest of things, my children have rekindled my thirst for knowledge. My elder one always has queries about what and how things are happening. the younger one, in the best of her abilities, can keep herself engaged in the smallest tasks like folding a hanky, solving building blocks, going through pictorial books, and naming things that she is not able to recognize. Embracing curiosity as a lifelong companion, they've taught me that the pursuit of understanding and questioning the world around us is not only natural but also essential for personal and intellectual growth.

    4. Living in the Present: A Masterclass in Mindfulness Children are remarkably adept at living in the present moment. The concept of past and future seems to elude them as they immerse themselves fully in the joy of the now. the elder one always talks about seizing the day and often makes his day fun-filled and productive. similarly, the younger one is looking at daily activities with a different perspective every day. She has a routine, but it always gets an extra touch by exploring new activities around her. I can see they both aren't worried about the days coming or what happened in the past. From the sheer delight in a rainbow after a drizzle to the unabashed laughter during a game of peek-a-boo, my kids have instilled in me the importance of cherishing each moment as it comes, unburdened by the weight of yesterday or the uncertainties of tomorrow.

    5. Authenticity: Embracing Individuality Wholeheartedly Perhaps the most heartfelt lesson I've learned from my children is the art of authenticity. They wear their hearts on their sleeves, expressing their emotions without reservation. In a world often masked by pretense, my kids have shown me the beauty of embracing individuality without fear of judgment. Their authenticity serves as a gentle nudge, encouraging me to be true to myself and others.

In the tapestry of parenthood, every day brings forth new lessons, and the wisdom gleaned from my children has been nothing short of transformative. As I continue to observe, learn, and grow alongside them, I am reminded that sometimes, the earnest insights into life come from the smallest and most unassuming teachers – our children.
